Al Musawwir – The Artist
Emerald green trees
all thick with
promises
tower up like
monuments,
as the golden sand
ripples with
pride,
showing its willingness
to receive
a sprinkling of
life-gifting
seeds
The soft crooning of
the pearlescent
waves
beckons you
tenderly
to this majestic
land,
that is
filled to
the brim with
ingenuity
The serenity of
these kingly
waters,
knitted
mindfully with
turquoise aquamarine,
has tranquility
holding out its
hand like
a bold
companion
A tropical
wonderworld
where dolphins
dance and whales
wander, sea turtles
shift, and stingrays
surround
a breathtaking
bounty
of cradling
coral
Hearts sown
harmoniously with
threads of glorification –
flora, fauna, and
human alike,
living to the
rhythm
of the
Almighty’s
awe-inspiring
artistry
This free verse poem was inspired by my visit to a wondrous masterpiece of natural beauty – the Maldivian island of Emboodhu Finolhu in the Indian Ocean. In my poem, lines of verse combine to form gently curving shapes, mirroring the rhythmic movement of the ocean waves as they lovingly embrace the island shore.
I would like to dedicate this work to the Lady of Light herself, Sayyida Fatema Zahra (as). It is a great honour indeed to have been named after her. May she be pleased with my efforts.
I hope that you have enjoyed reading my testament to the greatest Artist, Designer, Maker and Shaper of them all!
